Site inspector checking steel scaffolding before delivery at a construction site.

Why is Site Inspection Important before Scaffolding Delivery

Before discussing the significance of site inspection, let’s know about some real-life construction accidents.

Incident #1

Port Arthur LNG facility witnessed a massive collapse of its formwork and scaffolding at the construction site in Sabine Pass, Texas. The fateful incident that happened at the dawn of April 29, 2025, left two workers of the scaffolding company Bechtel Energy dead and two others severely injured. The accident took place during the construction of a massive LNG storage tank. The crew was working on a heavy-duty scaffolding system overnight when a major portion of the system failed unexpectedly, causing workers to fall.

The subsequent preliminary investigations suggested the following reasons responsible for the mishap:

  • Inadequate structural planning and engineering oversight
  • Incompatibility to handle the requisite weight limits and mechanical stresses placed on it
  • Probable shortcomings  in risk assessment during site inspection

Incident #2

Another similar disaster happened recently on September 14, 2025 Lucknow, India, where a worker lost his life in a scaffold collapse case. The case occurred at an under-construction structure of Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Science (UPSIFS). The initial enquiry revealed the following details:

  • Structural defects
  • Substandard quality of supporting materials
  • Inadequate assessment of the scaffolding requirement against the load-bearing capacity

Incident #3

A similar incident happened recently on April 30, 2026, during the construction of a commercial hospital building, again in Lucknow. While the crew was doing heavy basement excavation and foundation preparation, a heavy wall fell down on the ground.

It trapped two laborers under the debris. During the rescue operation, one worker survived with minor injuries. However, the other laborer was pulled out in an unconscious state and died late in the hospital. The initial investigation into the accident revealed several irregularities in the site assessment.

  • Improper assessment of ground and soil stability
  • Absence of protective scaffolding and shoring at the site
  • Delivery of building materials and operating heavy machinery near uninspected, open excavation sites

Did you notice any similarities between these three incidents? Yes, you got it right! Carelessness. There was possibly no prior site inspection in these cases, and the results were obvious. This is perhaps the right time to know more about the necessity of site inspection

Why is site inspection necessary before delivering Scaffolding?

AOne Engineering has been operating in the Scaffolding business for around 14 years. Throughout this time, we have gained tremendous experience and expertise in scaffolding installation for the real estate, construction, and many other fields.

Before embarking on any such project, we prefer to do a thorough inspection of the site before delivering and erecting the temporary scaffolding structure. Here are the prominent reasons behind this essential practice.

Know the Project requirements

Visiting the location in person enables us to assess various crucial aspects of the project:

  • Height of building
  • Maximum load requirement
  • Situation of the ground
  • Type of soil
  • Scope of work

Identify and address the challenges

Site inspection allows us to know the potential site-specific challenges as mentioned below, and allows us time to come up with a concrete strategy to tackle those issues before installing the scaffolding.

  • Uneven or irregular surface
  • Overhead interruptions
  • Space restrictions
  • Excess traffic or footfall around the site
  • Manholes, drains or other underground utilities
  • Restricted access points, such as small entry gates, narrow lanes, or basements

Know material requirements

An early site inspection allows us to assess the type and quantity of scaffolding materials needed. This helps us to suggest the most feasible scaffold solution for your project. The factors we consider for the assessment include

  • Project height
  • Load requirement
  • Working conditions

Better safety of workers

A prior examination of the site helps you chalk out a safe installation strategy. This will eventually lead to multiple benefits:

  • Reduced accident risks
  • Minimized hassles regarding structural instability during work
  • Assessment of expected weight of workers, tools, and materials that the scaffolding can bear

Ground Stability assessment

A thorough evaluation of ground stability helps to determine the capability of the ground to safely withstand the scaffold structure. It will also find out if it needs an additional support system for installation. Here is what the assessment includes:

  • Identification of soil, sand, loose gravel, or any other factor that could affect ground stability
  • Checking the ground for drainage, waterlogging, or seepage issues
  • Learning the requirements of sole boards, base plates, or other measures for load distribution
  • Assessing slopes or uneven ground elevation to adopt requisite leveling measures
  • Finding out if nearby excavation work could make the scaffold foundation unstable

Check the site for regulatory compliance

An early site assessment also helps to comply with the required safety regulations and industry standards. For instance, when working in India, you must abide by the relevant BIS regulations. Here are some crucial points to consider:

  • Ensure the use of scaffolding components and materials that adhere to relevant industry safety standards
  • Site inspection by responsible project engineers, safety officers, or third-party inspectors
  • The construction site and the scaffolding should comply with the local construction regulations
  • Examine the site and then check the site to verify the incorporation of safe access and egress

Overall, a careful site inspection before the delivery of scaffolding confirms the safety, efficiency, and capability of the scaffolding system to strongly support the project. Our experts hold the requisite experience and expertise in performing these safety checks firsthand. Therefore, when you are in the lookout for a seasoned scaffolding provider in Lucknow, we can be a feasible option. Remember, a thorough site inspection lays the cornerstone for a thriving construction project.

Lessons learnt

Building a structure from scratch is a big responsibility, and it relies significantly on the installation of a sturdy scaffolding structure. We have encountered several incidents in the past where the lack of proper safety measures or safety inspections at the scaffolding site has led to heavy losses of life and property. To avert such mishaps, carrying out a site inspection before the delivery of scaffolding is crucial.

The service provider you hire for scaffolding should be vigilant enough to abide by the required standards and safety measures. If you are unable to perform a detailed site inspection, your scaffolding provider should be capable enough to do the job.

Find out if it deploys project engineers, authorized safety officers, or third-party inspectors to examine the construction and suggest valid recommendations. If you are looking for one such experienced company, you can trust AOne Engineering

With an experienced and expert team, we carry out the requisite assessment of your site so that our scaffolding structures remain safe and sturdy throughout the project. With timely site inspection, you can avoid failure of temporary support structures, leading to permanent and long-lasting structures.
